Powerless To Super Natural Power

Powerless To Super Natural Power by Jason Randolph for Gospel News Network

When we realize that we are 100% powerless our lives can change. It is not before this moment strikes our lives that we can open our hearts to God. We can not be open to the idea that we are in charge of this or in charge of that and claim we are walking with Jesus Christ. Unless the power is with God, we are living in sin.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ~ Romans 13:1-2 KJB

The book, Alcoholics Anonymous, the book that helped me to find the door knob of the door that opens to God, that book puts it this way.

  1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.

It is Step 1 for a reason, just like the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States is first for a reason. In being first there is an establishing of the foundation in which everything else manifest. Without this “first” nothing else matters, nothing else is going to work. We must humble ourselves and come to understand we are nothing and we are nobody. If you don’t think this is a tough pill to swallow just ask the “rich young ruler” (Matt. 19:16-29 / Mark 10:17-27), he will sorrowfully explain it to you. He could’ve been one of the Disciples, but he lost his identity in Christ.

We must first come to realize that ALL power is from God and God alone. All direction, every step, every breath is from God.  When we accept this, and put away our pride, we can then move into a deeper relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. The opportunity to seek His Power, His Strength, His Direction and the Living Waters of Jesus Christ, can now become a reality.

Jesus Christ explained it simple enough terms, but some of us need it in even smaller pieces. Jesus had this to say…

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. ~ Matthew 6:33-34 KJB

The book, Alcoholics Anonymous, made it a little easier for some of to accept. With the removal of certain words, people that have lived with the misguided notion their life was just fine without Jesus Christ, can suddenly come to a realization that is simply not true.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Having been restored to sanity, by the grace and mercy of God, we can then open our hearts to the reality of God in our life. It is by God’s grace, and nothing else, that we are here, breathing, being restored to full health and being restored – we’re not there yet – but being restored to a functioning member of society. We are no longer lepers having to shout “unclean, unclean”.

We were powerless, God restores His rightful place in our lives as having ALL the Power and we accept as truth. Once we accept this, in our heart of hearts, we can see things change in our lives. Feeling returns to our hands, to our skin and to our heart. We can, almost immediately feel something inside that we haven’t felt in a while – what we are feeling is love for others, others that we now realize we have hurt.

Now, in order to open the door to rediscover our Christ Identity, we must accept God, fully, into our lives. We must come to understand the Power that God has demands we no longer walk of our own accord but by His direction, by His love for us and by His great Wisdom. We must believe, accept and profess that it will be by His will, not ours, that makes Steps 1 and 2 complete. Without this acceptance, nothing changes.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. ~ Matthew 22:37-40 KJB

For someone who is living in sin, whatever the sin may be, which would include, but not limited to,  watching TV, exercise, drugs, work, sex, chocolate, shopping, arguing, alcohol and the list goes on and on, This person may not be able or have desire to hear something like how Jesus Christ describes it. But a softer-sell may be just the ticket to get someone to hear what Jesus said. Remember, Peter explained, after being filled with the Holy Spirit when they left the UpperRoom that people would hear in their own language ( Acts 2:4) what God was speaking through them. We may not be able to hear something as all consuming as “all thy mind” but may be able to hear the same thing spoken by a loved one, someone they trust or a complete stranger say the exact same thing using different words. Words like used in Step 3 of the book Alcoholics Anonymous

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

While it is equally as all consuming as the greatest commandment, it doesn’t sound like it is all consuming. It is. One a person decides to turn over their free will and accept the will of God, that’s an all consuming proposition. There is no wiggle room in Step 3 the exact same as there is zero room for negotiation in the greatest commandment. Either it is or it is not – there is no gray, only black or white – Light or dark.

The path to the heart of the Father has now been exposed. The next steps in following in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, can now be made with a clear heart, a clear mind and body moving towards restoration. Join us as we trudge the road of happy destiny.
